Undergraduate and graduate student participants in the 2006 summer seminar Exploring America: Pine Ridge South Dakota look on as Wilmer Mesteth (Lakota; right center) gives a lesson in plant identification and Lakota ethnobotany on tribal lands near Martin, South Dakota. The course, led by Craig Howe, PhD (left center), director of the Center for American Indian Research and Native Studies, examines Lakota history, culture, and land through in-depth study of the Pine Ridge Reservation and surrounding locations.
